Special Notes

  • Visa-free stays can be extended for up to 36 months (for most nationalities) through the Bureau of Immigration

  • Visa-required nationals must apply before arrival

  • 14-day visa-free entry applies only to India, China, and a few others if:

    • They have a valid visa to US, Japan, Australia, Schengen, etc.

    • They enter via Manila NAIA Airport

    • They have a confirmed onward ticket

Philippines Tourist Visa Requirements (Pre-Arrival Application)

If you are not eligible for visa-free entry, or don’t meet the 14-day visa-free exemption rule (for some nationals with 3rd-country visas), you must apply for a 9(a) Temporary Visitor/Tourist Visa before arriving in the Philippines.


General Eligibility for a Tourist Visa

You must show:

  • A valid reason to travel (tourism, visiting friends, exploring)

  • Strong financial capacity to fund your stay

  • Intent to return to your home country (proof of ties)


Required Documents (9a Tourist Visa Application)

  1. Duly Accomplished Visa Application Form

    • Downloadable from the Philippine Embassy website or filled online (if available)

  2. Valid Passport

    • Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay

    • Photocopy of the bio page (data page)

  3. Two (2) Passport-Sized Photos

    • Taken within the last 6 months

    • White background, no filters

  4. Roundtrip Flight Reservation or Itinerary

    • Return or onward ticket

    • Not necessarily purchased yet (optional: dummy ticket)

  5. Hotel Booking / Accommodation Proof

    • Confirmed hotel booking or invitation letter from a host (if staying with a Filipino resident)

  6. Proof of Financial Capacity

    • Recent bank statements (6 months)

    • Certificate of employment (if applicable)

    • Business registration (if self-employed)

    • Affidavit of support (if sponsored)

  7. Cover Letter

    • Explaining purpose of travel, duration, and travel plan

  8. Visa Fee (Non-Refundable)

    • Varies by embassy (usually $30–$50 USD equivalent in local currency)

    • Paid in  bank draft, depending on local consulate rules or paid online for online application

  9. Additional Requirements (if applicable):

    • Invitation letter (from family/friend in the Philippines)

    • Sponsor’s valid ID, proof of relationship

    • For minors: Parental consent + birth certificate

  • Typically 5–10 working days

  • May vary by country and season


Visa Validity & Stay Duration

  • Visa validity: 3 months from date of issue

  • Allowed stay: up to 30 or 59 days, depending on what is granted

  • Visa can be extended inside the Philippines at a Bureau of Immigration office (in 30–60 day increments)


Important Notes

  • Overstaying is penalized (₱500 per day + clearance requirement)

  • Carry copies of your visa and passport during domestic travel

  • Ensure all documents are honest and valid — false documents can lead to blacklist or denial
